Sun shading

Keep out the harsh sun without losing the light. Sun shading on or under your veranda makes all the difference on hot days.

Under a glass roof it can get quite warm on a sunny afternoon. Sun shading blocks a large part of that heat, so your patio stays usable even in midsummer.

You choose shading under the roof or on top of it. Under-roof shading hangs sheltered from the weather. Over-roof shading stops the heat before it reaches the glass, which makes it the most effective.

Why sun shading?

  • Cooler under your veranda on sunny days
  • Less harsh light and glare
  • Under or on top of the roof
  • Made to measure for your veranda
  • Personal advice and a no-obligation quote

What you choose

We make everything to measure. These are the choices that make the difference:

Under the roof
Protected from wind and rain, so it stays good-looking for a long time. Blocks the harsh light; some of the heat is already under the glass by then.
On top of the roof
Catches the sun before it hits the glass. The coolest option, but the fabric is exposed to the weather.
Operation
By hand, or electrically with a switch or remote control.
Fabric
The fabric determines how much light and heat gets through. A lighter colour keeps it cooler, a darker colour gives a better view outside.

What to check before you order

Four things to check now, so everything fits first time.

Know which way you face

Facing south and west, the afternoon sun is at its strongest. That’s where sun shading helps most.

Measure the inside dimension

For under-roof shading, the measurement between the rafters counts. Measure in a few places and give us the smallest figure.

Think about power

If you choose electric operation, make sure there’s a power point near the veranda.

Retract it in strong wind

Sun shading is meant for the sun. Retract the fabric in a storm or heavy rain.

Questions about sun shading

Is your question not listed? Call or email us and you’ll get an answer from someone who knows the product.

Under or on top of the roof: which is better?

On top is coolest, because the heat doesn’t pass through the glass first. Under the roof, the fabric is better protected and lasts longer. We’re happy to help you work out what suits your patio.

Can sun shading be fitted to my existing veranda?

Often, yes. Send a photo and the measurements with your request and we’ll see what fits.

Can the fabric handle rain?

It can cope with a shower, but sun shading is meant for the sun. Retract the fabric in strong wind or heavy rain and let it dry afterwards.
